Addis Ababa— Ethiopian Foreign Minister, Dr. Workeneh Gebeyehu on Thursday received the delegation headed by his Somaliland counterpart, Dr. Sa’ad Ali Shire who is on official visit to Ethiopia. Somaliland’s FM was flanked by Ethiopian head of mission, Hon. Ahmed Egal and and attache on trade to diplomatic office in Ethiopia, Mr. Abdirahman Abdi.
Both ministers have stressed the need to enhance existing bilateral ties on the areas of security, trade and education. They also exchanged views on the general situation of the Horn of Africa and the unfolding political changes to the region. It is agreed during the one hour talks that Ethiopia, Somaliland must boost the cooperation and the realization of the Berbera port agreement where Ethiopia is part and parcel of the deal since the takeover of the port by Dubai ports world. The FM of Somaliland is on working tour to certain African countries including Ghana, Senegal and Mauritania and attended the African Union Summit. Somaliland is a broke away from Somalia in 1991 but it has not been official recognized as an independent country by the int’l community.
